In the heart of a kingdom called Rosaria, where the stars whispered secrets to those who would listen, there lived a magnificent creature known as the Phoenix. But this Phoenix was no ordinary bird of fire; it was a being of great power, born from the flames of rebirth and destruction. Its feathers shimmered with all the colours of the sun, and its cry could make the earth tremble and the skies themselves dance.
Long ago, the Phoenix’s bright flame was passed down to the people. Its fire was a gift, one that could heal and destroy in equal measure. The Phoenix brought warmth to those in need, and yet, when its fiery wings unfurled, entire kingdoms could be reduced to ash.
But the Phoenix's flame was not just destructive; it was a symbol of hope for Rosaria. For in the ashes it left behind, new life would sprout, and from the fire’s core, a new future would rise. It was the eternal cycle—life born of death, death born of life.
That flame took root inside the sons of Rosaria's royal family. Meant to be the kingdom's protector and wielder of that flame. Destine to be reborn time and time again to continue the Phoenix's gift.
[ Nimona does her best to actually read the story, but gives up after the first little paragraph - instead swapping it to read out loud to her. So it takes a few minutes before she responds again. ]
Okay, that's a pretty metal story. But does that mean there's someone out there who plays host to the Phoenix and even if he dies, he just gets brought back to life?
Like, even if there's nothing left of his body, he'll just get reborn again?
[ Even through text, the questions and answers somehow seem important to Nimona. ]
[Well, he did say it was going to be a long story... And he even gave the condensed version of it. He omitted a lot of important details!]
A pretty "metal" story? I'm sorry, I don't understand that phrasing... What about it is... about metal?
And that interpretation is close to correct. While the Phoenix is able to survive a great deal of damage, the current manifestation cannot be reborn from death. Instead, the Phoenix chooses to awaken in the another generation.
[He understands. Maybe he'll start trying to use this new expression.]
Unfortunately, the Phoenix that I know does not have the same immortality as most stories and legends might say. Death is an ending and is final, in my world.
Yeah, I kinda got that from the crazy god talk he told me. It was over text, so I wasn't really near him.
I learned he was a dragon, too! I wanted to go flying together, but he told me what happens when they change. It sucks that they can't really use it for fun.
Yeah, I knew he was a dragon... and if I remember right, Bahamut is the Warden of Light. Cid is lightning, Benedikta is probably wind. Odin is darkness.
Phoenix is fire. The water one was lost. Ifrit is "God's vessel". I think the only ones I haven't really met are earth and ice now.
[ She technically talked to Jill a long time ago. ]
That Odin guy was chatty, the rest I just kind of picked up after all the time we've been here. But I kind of prefer people like Cid and Dion, honestly. I even think of Cid as my uncle!
Well, I'm Nimona. Shape-shifter extraordinaire. If I had a business card, that's what I'd put on it.
Yep! I've got two OP forms (that's Over-Powered). One is a dragon and the other is a phoenix.
You're part of Cid's crew, right? I've seen you around when I come to visit him.
Probably because I'm the only one around, as far as I know. Oh yeah, lots of power. I can turn into almost every animal, or even look like different people. Handy for sneaking around. So if you ever need someone to slip through a crack or something, I'm the shape-shifter for the job!

That is a very curious question. I shouldn't pick too lightly...
Perhaps a phoenix?
[Is that a cop-out answer?]
no subject
Shhhh, it's nothing! Don't worry about it!
Why a phoenix? Are there a lot of phoenixes in your world?
no subject
Hm. Only one phoenix, actually.
I'm quite fond of the story.

Tell me the story!

Metal is slang for "awesome, or amazing" where I'm from.
Why can't the current manifestation be reborn? Did it use up its flames of immortality or something?

[ She is going to have the Hideaway crew using her weird slang. ]
By any chance, is this Phoenix also called an Eikon sometimes?

Back in the early days, I asked that Odin guy a lot of questions and got answers I tried not to judge. And then learned some other stuff from Dion.
no subject
As for Dion, I'm sure he told you about Bahamut?
no subject
I learned he was a dragon, too! I wanted to go flying together, but he told me what happens when they change. It sucks that they can't really use it for fun.

I'm afraid that Dion was correct. While he is the king of dragons, Bahamut, it isn't a power that we can use frivolously.
Actually, I should clarify. Dion is the Dominant of Bahamut. As I am the Dominant of the Phoenix.

But hey, I get a new phoenix buddy!
no subject
Yes, that's right. I am the Phoenix. The eikon dominant over fire.
Buddies, are we?

I've never heard of a shape-shifter extraordinaire, before. You must hold great power if you are both a dragon and a phoenix.

[Cid does have a knack for adopting others.]
An incredible gift, indeed. I'll be sure to ask if I am ever in need of a mouse or a lion.
no subject
[ She might have adopted him first. As she does. ]
Or a bug or dragon! Did you phoenix form also get smaller when you got to this world?
no subject
Yes, I did have a smaller form before I was able to regain my full power...
I happened to turn into something very sparrow-like.
