[ Because you linked it in his top-level, lemme break in his inbox with Nimona! This will come after the two armadas go to their different port cities. ]
Why did the pirate buy a seagull instead of a parrot?
[ As the stylus has been pointed out to Dion, he can pen the letter in his own hand. ]
Dear Joshua,
I hope your voyage across the sea finds you well. I will admit being at sea with nothing but water surrounding me has given me ample time to think, and the night time darkness without a light source, I've scarcely seen anything like it.
I appreciate your assistance before we departed, and your tea selection has been a slight balm to my nerves. I've managed to avoid any embarrassing incidents, at the very least.
I've been to Elah and come into possession of an interesting artifact, although I've not any idea what I should do with it.
Have you heard anything about our method of arrival? I have heard a theory about it being some sort of Rift, but alas, no one seems to know very much about this circumstance. At least, none that I've met. Perhaps you've had better luck?
[When Joshua received the handwritten note on his device he can't help but feel a small flicker of excitement in the center of his chest. He'll read it over carefully, perhaps a few times, before he replies just as Dion has.]
Dear Dion,
It's a relief to know that the tea has been serving you well. I've often thought about how you might be at sea with it or without it. If you are feeling better because of it then all the better.
Although, I am sorry to hear that you've had thoughts mounting due to the sea's silence. I'll admit, the sea and the waves have a way of making me feel melancholy as well. Perhaps it's but the atmosphere and the way the ocean clears your mind of other worries to focus on ones that are buried more deeply. If you wish to share your thoughts with me I would be more than willing to read and listen.
I would very much like to hear about what artifacts you might have found as well. I haven't come across anything that is particularly special yet but I have heard of daggers that can sing and gloves that allow the wearer to carry heavier objects than they might expect. Isn't that a marvel...?
As for the rifts, I have made a few notes of my own. It appears that the rifts are random and can appear at any time and in any place. Others from worlds unlike our own can be pulled to this one through these rifts but there is no understanding of how we may return through them. At least that I know of right now.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you again, Joshua Rosfield.
[Which includes a small flourish of red like a feather underneath his name.]
I supposed it's nothing to keep a mystery. And I assume you are curious after our run-in on Nogard.
Yes, that is correct. The use of my magic comes at a cost, unfortunately. But I do recall you saying something similar about such a thing. May I ask why you are asking?
Joshua will receive a rather... Unusually large package.
First, will be a sack of fresh carrots, followed by a small carrot shaped pillow.
Beneath all that, are some books that he should enjoy. There's a bit of everything from classic fiction, to more adventurous, and some more informational like about the culture and history of this world. There is even a carrot bookmark—and a normal bookmark.
There is an orange card included.]
Joshua,
So I heard you were a fan of carrots?
[Does he know the truth forever a mystery.]
Thought you might like these books, so enjoy them with a nice snack.
[Definitely can be read as with a carrot—]
I know it hasn't been too long since we've met, but I certainly consider you as one of my own, so if you ever need anything, don't forget you can always ask for help. Especially since I might be more open minded than your brother.
I also hope you've been taking this chance to live in a way you couldn't back in Valisthea. No matter how brief or long our stay is, you shouldn't waste this opportunity.
[Whether he'll be there to open the door or not, Rin has dropped something off at his door. It's neatly packed with a ribbon on the top of the box to keep it secured for him, along with a little note that's attached to the box.]
Joshua,
I thought you might want some extra clothing. It's not for exploring though, mainly for lounging around and walking through Eltrut with... Hope you like it though. Don't ask how I got your measurements either, heh.
If you want more clothing, feel free to ask me anytime, kiddo. I'll make you anything you want, so don't be a stranger.
[What a sweet and thoughtful gift. Joshua will accept it gracefully but not without a proper thank you note for her to find in return.]
Dear Rin,
Thank you for the thoughtful gifts. It seems you have a knack for needlework that I wasn't aware of. You'll be happy to know I'll put these to good use.
I hope you know that if you ever need anything in return that I can help with, I'd be happy to provide it.
[ Though it was already well into the late hours of the night, this was something Clive believed could not wait until morning. So apologies if you were asleep Joshua, but the light sound of several knocks upon your door is a clear indication that someone wants you awake! ]
Joshua? [ He will call out, both trying to keep his voice down as to not wake up the other patrons of the Hideaway but also loud enough to be heard from the other side of the door. ]
[Luckily, Joshua is more often than not up late reading. Tonight is much like those nights where he's been tucked into his bedding with a good book. So, the knocking is only a surprise in the sense that his brother seems to be knocking so late.
He gets up and answers the door just as quietly.]
Brother? Is something the matter? It's quite late.
Hello and warm wishes! I've heard that the past few months have been quite exciting for you, to be it lightly! I very much hope that things have quieted down for you since and that you've managed to find the time relax. Well, I hope this gift helps make things a little brighter than before!
Happy Holidays,
Santa Claus
[Joshua's gift are two books. One on the histories of Escordvi, and the other one on its geography and various cultures!
Also, he gets a stuffed seagull. It's soft and huggable.]
[Inside a box wrapped in red paper, Joshua will find several different blends of tea - clearly labeled with things like "for help sleeping" and "for staying awake" and the like. There is, in addition, a very carefully wrapped blue glass jar. Its label reads "For Energy." And there's a note!
Figured you weren't likely to get too cold, but there's nothing like the comfort of a hot cup of tea anyways! If you're feeling too worn out, put a spoon of the stuff in the blue jar in your tea and you should perk right up. We don't have a holiday like this one, but I've really enjoyed choosing what to give my friends. Thanks for being one of them. -Alfyn]

[Joshua’s going to get an unexpected gift one of these days. A leather-bound notebook along with a big, red feather strapped on top of it. There’s also a quill attached. There’s no letter from who it’s from.]
[What an amusing message... Joshua can't help chuckling softly.]
A time-waster, you say? I would not call any book a time-waster, given they're meant to be a form of escapism for the imagination. There is no time wasted in such things.
Yet, if it be aimless wandering you seek, I might furnish you with a few titles. Stories in which one might become most delightfully, and needlessly, lost in.
[A handwritten note is folded atop a plain but neatly wrapped package containing, once Joshua opens it, a beaded and feathered hip scarf that is remeniscent of things Joshua has worn, if a bit fancier.
The contents of the letter, penned in Dion's flowing and precise script, follow.]
Dearest Joshua, While we speak often and our conversations vary from the mundane to the esoteric, I fear I have poorly relayed my true feelings and I find often I am better suited to putting quill to parchment than I am candidly sharing such things in person. As such, I have been remiss in expressing just how much you mean to me.
Your friendship is my most cherished possession and I keep it close to my heart all the days we are apart, but this preciousness runs deeper than comradarie, as you well know, or at the very least I pray that you do.
Since arriving here, reuniting in your case, I have felt as though a wind wound between us, prepared to bluster but held in restraint by some unseen force and I admit it was likely my own inner turmoil. When our lips met, though, a storm of emotion unfurled within my breast and it has yet to abate its squall.
I say this not as a man who fears the maelstrom, but as a man all too pleased to learn his heart may have been in tatters, but which has learned to embrace the rain upon its shards.
Please, accept this small token of my affection and know that your smile raises my spirits as few things can.
[ Emet-Selch has this package sent to The Hideaway addressed to Joshua. Inside, nestled in cotton padding, is a ceramic egg flecked with something iridescent (pieces of shell and quartz). There are instructions on how to "incubate" the egg. When the conditions are right, the egg will "hatch" and reveal a phoenix mammet within.
Inside the egg itself are instructions on how to turn it on, maintain it, et cetera. Joshua can take the mammet to the Forge at any time for mundane repairs, but only Emet-Selch can replace the crystal core should it be broken or malfunction in some way.
The phoenix - a delicate composition of various types of warm-coloured metals - will hover by its owner's shoulder by default, occasionally coming to perch on it. Its wings flap slowly in imitation of flight, emitting faint traces of magical red sparks from the tips of its feathers wherever it goes. One will also notice a gentle warmth radiating from it when in close proximity as well although the source is unclear.
But the real eye-catcher lies in its tail feathers: the metal used has been pressed flat and each link is a feather, their pattern etched in and painted, joined like chainmail with the tiniest, pale green crystals embedded at the heart of each one. As one may guess, those crystals are enchanted with wind and they allow the tails to undulate of their own accord, creating a ethereal impression whether the bird flies or sits still. ]

I have a desire to read anything that would be considered "a waste of time".
No.
